Schnabel Engineering is currently seeking a Senior Tunnel/Structural Engineer to support our growing Tunnel Engineering Services Group (TESG). The TESG of Schnabel, formerly Lachel & Associates, focuses on the design of tunnels, shafts, and underground structures for transportation, water/wastewater, and hydropower facilities.
Primary responsibilities for this position include developing initial and final lining designs for tunnels and associated underground structures; reinforced concrete design (including precast segmental lining design); steel design; NATM/SEM design; and design of SOE systems for shafts and deep excavations. Supplementary responsibilities include preparation of design drawings and specifications, developing design reports, constructability reviews, and performing tunnel/structural inspections. We are looking for a motivated candidate with attention to detail, a passion to continue to develop as a professional, and a desire to be a part of and help support a strong, growing team.
Required qualifications include: a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited university (Master’s Degree with a structural design emphasis preferred); 10 years of prior professional work experience in structural design of tunnels and underground structures; and licensure as a Professional Engineer (NCEES certification preferred).
Required skills include: proficiency with AutoCAD; strong verbal and written communications skills; proficiency with computer aided structural analysis and finite element modeling programs such as STAAD Pro, RISA, Strand 7, DeepEX, Shoring Suite, Plaxis, FLAC.
